Minecraft Butcher Guide

A Butcher villager uses Smoker as a workstation. Job assignment depends on a reachable, unclaimed workstation and the villager’s current trade state.

Workstation

Place a Smoker near an eligible villager, then allow time for the villager to claim it. A villager with locked trades may keep its profession even if the workstation changes.

If the job does not change

1. Check that the villager is not a baby or nitwit.
2. Check whether you have traded with this villager before; a trade can lock the profession.
3. Confirm that another villager has not claimed the workstation and that the target can reach it.
4. Test during the normal working period and compare the current edition and village rules.
